These indexes provide access to Governor John W. Stevenson's executive journals (KYSV90-A428), which document his official actions. Included are general indexes to Executive Journals 1 and 2, dated September 1867 to March 1870; and indexes to pardons and remissions recorded in Executive Journals 1 and 2. There is no index to Executive Journal 3, dated March 1870 to February 1871.

John White Stevenson succeeded to the office of governor in September 1867, upon the death of newly-elected Governor John L. Helm. A Democrat, he served until a few months prior to the end of the term, when he resigned to take a seat in the United States Senate. Stevenson was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1812.
